Great shots Glen! Perfect example that glossing deer noses is incorrect

I dont really see a lot of texturing on a real deer nose. Like you see on some mounts. I think I'm going to stop texturing altogether.

Surely not telling you what to do but I do see a lot of texture and definitely would NOT STOP texturing your deer , if you put a little clay behind your nose pad then as it dries take a little tool and press in on the low lines of the pad which in turn raises the pad bumps or texture of the nose . I do that for competition , by doing this it does give you more and natural texture.

Thanks for the idea. I'll try it on the next one.

I wouldn’t say glossing is incorrect. I’ve seen as many wet deer nose reference pics as I’ve seen dry nose reference pics.

That is as good a reference pic as you can put out. That being said not all deers noses are textured. Alot of these South Alabama deer have almost a slick nose. I'd say at least 25% or more.

Cool trail camera pictures but very poor pictures for reference. Way too blurry and out of focus.

Have a few mounts ready for pickup, and probably like most of us I'm looking them over and finding things that I think I could have done different or better. One thing is the lower lip.I think I show to much lip but after looking at the trail -cam pictures ,I might be pretty close.Very helpful pictures!
  11. Thanks for the pics.....good eye photos for use of my Joe Coombs 9300 project....
