Hi everyone, I am a newbie here. I am trying to make rawhide from cowhides using calcium hydroxide for hair removal. I am having a hard time rinsing all of it out of the hide after dehairing. I soak and rinse them in a 140 gallon stock tank after dehairing but it is too hard on my back to agitate them by hand and change the water 10 or 20 times to get them clean since I have back problems. I read where people use a gas powered mortar mixer but the hides are too large and have to be cut in two. I am making large drums and cannot cut the hide. Does anyone know of a better way to get all of the lime back out of the hide? Thank you.

You'll need to acidify the hides. White vinegar soak then rinse.
