Has anyone ever cleaned a skull that was part of a taxidermy mount? Have the opportunity to grab this caribou skull but not sure how much of a project I’d be taking on to get it presentable.

hi...no, it was originally cleaned and stuffed professionally...but after so many years, the skin and fur were in bad condition so we stripped it off...”

That’s got to be 75 years old

If it's a good price, grab it anyway. Worry about getting the skull clean and white later.

Old (and that is pretty old) mounts used glues and mache that were water soluble. Won't hurt to soak in warm water with detergent and some ammonia just as you would for degreasing. See if it softens up enough to be scrubbed clean.
