Battery Acid Tanning Help

    Wanted section , some one looking for a racoon... take orders and target that spiecies to fill that order. Get a hold of some of the taxidermy schools, they have needs to have stuff for students.

  5. If you can get these locally, the recipe is easily followed and produces white soft and washable furs in warm water even. Funeral home cavity fluid (37%) is the formaldehyde you will need. The battery acid is only 1/3 of conc. H2SO4 is ok at 1oz,acid and 1 lb. salt. gal. water, Pickle degreased hides for a week and rinse well in water. Thin if hide is thick and re pickle. Place directly in tan.
    Tan in 1oz. formalin and 1lb salt/gal of tan. for another week. Add a cup of baking soda and next day add another 1lb of salt. leave for another week. Wash out salt in washing machine. Tack out skin and oil. When nearly dry you
    can begin to break. If oil gets on fur, shampoo and air dry, break again if necessary. Should be white and garment ready.
