I think I have decided to become a taxidermist but I would rather learn from a pro than teach myself. Those of you who are professionals, how did you find apprentices?

Generally speaking, professionals don't find apprentices, the prospective apprentice finds the professional and is very lucky to find one to take them on. Main reasons are:
    1) They don't have the time
    2) They may be training their competition
    3) If the apprentice screws up a customer specimen, the shop is obligated to replace it at their expense to save their name.

Find a shop that will let you watch for free if you can't afford it in exchange for maintenance duties, washing critters and other tasks etc.

Sorry, but facts are facts! Best of luck to you.
