Testing taxidermy shops as to who would may do something that could be illegal. I had a call once, told the person on the other end about legal papers need to mount an owl. Plus I said I would have them meet with the local CO, when they come over to go over the paperwork. NO calls after that.

 

That's a once every month or two call for me. Usually someone who has found one road-killed. I tell 'em to bury it with a shovel, then bury the shovel!

 

Sure sign of someone full of $hit trying to get over on you.

 

Keep in mind I don't even do commercial work for anyone, period. I had a guy come to my electronics repair shop and said he heard I was a taxidermist. He had a red-tailed hawk he hit with his truck (he said anyways). I told him it was illegal and I was not a licenses taxidermist and refused it. Like usual, he said, well I won't tell anyone. Yeah, right! He then told me if I didn't do it he would call TWRA and tell them I offered to mount it for him. I told him to do just that while I was picking up the phone to call them. What this clown didn't know is I record everything that comes into my shop. I saved the tape and called TWRA. They came, watched the tape and took it with them but I never heard a word after that. Set up? Maybe, who knows?

 

I always suspect a set up first, so, it never goes past that.

 

I just tell them $75,000.00 to mount it , that way it pays all my fines and lawyers fees lol . Haven’t had one dropped of yet lol

 

I love the yearly visits when they show up with a waterfowl ID book

 

just tell them to call the best bird taxidermist around and give them the number to USFW

 

They must be calling me after they've tried you! Please tell them not to call Joe afterwards!
