Received three deer forms from Mckenzie (shipped from PA.) $65.00.Received two deer forms from Ohio Taxidermy ( shipped from Ohio)$16.00.I know, pass it on to customer,etc.,etc.Still just doesn't seem right. Both were shipped by Federal Express.

Stocked up on driftwood! Love McKenzie's. Great selection and great service.
Freight charges? I don't even give it a second thought.

if you pass the shipping charges onto your customers, based on where the package comes from. some will pay more than others for the same service or some will be overcharged :)

I like your way of doing shipping charges, Joe. Adding up the total for the year and dividing up by the number of hours you work and adding that to your hourly rate. That's smart business practice. IF I ever go into the business I might borrow that idea. As a hobbyist I have to pay it all. Oh well, everything costs today.

Now that I'm doing taxidermy as a hobby, I feel the pinch of shipping. When I was doing it for customers, they paid shipping, not me.

I factor shipping charges costs into my ordering decisions. McKenzie's high shipping costs are higher than average product costs tend to make me want to order elsewhere at times. Its that simple.

It’s not so much McKenzie as it is the choice you use for shipping (I use UPS) and where you are in relation to their warehouse. For me McKenzie has just as economical shipping to my zip code as anyone else, IF... that is “IF”...they have the item in their Texas warehouse. From their other warehouse it is more expensive and takes longer. UPS and from their Texas warehouse is economical and almost always arrives the next day.
I would suggest checking the rates from other carriers from their location and compare.

Exactly! When I said compare, I meant shipping options AND suppliers. I compare suppliers (price, selection and quality), shipping cost, and time it takes for shipping.

I use McKenzie because they are in WI. But, shipping cost was high till I put in the Comment after ordering to use SpeeDee instead of UPS. UPS and the others nail you on shipping. One time I forgot a set of eye's. The eye's at the time were 12.00 and the shipping was 16.00?

I am surprised that UPS or FedEx hasn't bought out SpeeDee to put their competition out of business. I suspect that one day it will happen or after Speedee gets big enough their shipping charges will equal the other two.

What is funny is I can order the same item from McKenzie (NC warehouse) and Jim Allred (also in NC, same shipping zone) but one is only 60% of what the other cost for shipping. Now, who do you think charges more? Hint: It isn't the one in Saluda, NC!

McKenzie bought almost all the supply companies. my guess it was to corner the market and charge more, maybe...maybe not.

Take the box just as is back up to a UPS store and act like your shipping it back . See what the charge is , I would also use an address close just in case it’s in the system of an up charge with UPS AND MCKENZIE. Just to see the difference

You can calculate shipping from home if you have a FedEx or ups account....but it ain’t gonna change a thing.

I agree , but if every one thinks McKenzie is up charging the shipping, to find out take box as is right back to ups and ck , if the cost is the same or different, then you have your answer. It’s all I’m saying.

This subject keeps coming up over and over and no one seems to listen to the correct answer.
    One more time...
Mckenzie charges for shipping along with HANDLING CHARGES.
They list it all as shipping.
Most other supply companies figure shipping only.

    The end!! Lol

handling charges are suppose to be figured into the price of the product they sell. you know, like figuring the cost of supplies and shipping into the deer head or fish or whatever gets mounted.

dont tell me you charge the customer $$$ plus handling for a shoulder mount :)

You bet I do if I'm shipping or delivering. If picked up, like Mckenzie, I don't.
It's part of running a successful business.
