Just getting into taxidermy and I am attempting to do my first wrapped body after mounting on forms the past few projects. Can I use the excelsior from a craft store like Joann's for doing wrapped bodies, or is there a specific kind I need to get? I would normally buy from McKenzies but it is a fortune to ship something that small. Thanks for the help!

Research Mannikins has fine jewelers grade excelsior. There are many other taxidermy supply companies to choose from besides McKenzie that don't charge as much for shipping.

yes you can use the excelsior from Joann's but it is quite expensive! Like Tanglewood says, buy the stuff from Research Mannikins, it's the same price but their 1lb. of excelsior is 3X more than Joann's 6 ounces!

There is a McKenzie Supply in Beloit and I have requested SpeeDee which is quite a bit cheaper.
