Skulls With Yellowish Tinge

Photos? Could be from Iron. How do you clean and what do you use to clean in for a container?

 

They don't look bad so maybe I'm not seeing the yellow. Really looks like what some folks call a "natural" bone color. Have you used peroxide on them yet? Maybe a bit of yellow tint on the ridges of the bear. Have you let them dry completely to see if the yellow remains when dry?

 

The bear may still have grease in it as it is still wet. Maceration has to be complete, and then often some grease still escapes. The deer is bone colored, which is what it really should be. Natural blondes always look better than bleach blonds or platinum blonds.

 

I know very little about this but I really like the deer skull color. I’d take that over snow white ones any day.

 

Those are good-looking skulls in my book... No experience in preparation but as a collector I think they look good.

 

I appreciate the color of your skulls; they are beautifully done in my estimation. To each their own but I personally dislike skulls that are pure white. To me paper white skulls appear over processed and unnatural.

 

I think I can see that yellowish tint now. Do you know whether or not for sure that you have hard water or water with a high iron content? If you do, you could try a soak in a solution of Iron Out. It won't hurt it but, if you do, do NOT put it back into peroxide again afterwards. The Iron Out I use is a powder but I have had the container a long time and I'm not sure that they even make that type any more. Try the Advanced Search and try looking for a post by Cyclone .. on Iron Out. I believe he identified the newer version that was the right one and showed a picture of it.
