Here's the thing. You show your 1 reference pic, and take your position, and what does that accomplish?

If you want to let the poster know that the fleshy color selection is, perhaps, a bit overdone, we have a pm option. If you want to educate fish taxidermists on this forum, please share the science and the supporting information/documentation. If you want to puff your chest, lol.

I can't pretend to know a whole lot. But, I encourage all those who have more knowledge and experience to share rather than posture.

As for biggest specimens, I once had a request to replicate a nice fallfish.

No doubt, WR musky is historically the most interesting to me, but I've only ever worked on 1, and it was a most excellent blank by DC. I highly recommend it.

All 4 I have done are my biggest!
As a total noob...My 1st go was a repro of the biggest smally I have caught 5.5lbs...

My 2nd was my 1st and only attempt at a skin mount. Not a "special" fish...just what I happened to catch and attempt to taxidermize! 3-ish lb walleye.
It aint pretty...but I did learn a few things about what NOT to do!

3rd fish was a 26lb repro King, for my dad.

I have a 32lb repro of my King, ready for paint...but my lack of confidence has it collecting dust right now.

#4 is another repro, of my biggest crappie 14"

I do have a LONG way to go. None of them turned out as good as I hoped, but still better than I thought they would...except that walleye(yikes!)

#1 - That steelhead is smokin! Really really nice work man.

Biggest projects I've had thus far have been an 11 foot Mako, a 7 1/2 foot Atlantic Sturgeon, and a 50" Muskie.

Please Help, I just skinned my first fish. With the help of disc 5 from McKenzie Supply. I have some small bass to practice on and a small striper. My question is, Can I skin my big 26in. striper or do I have to get a replica ? I'm not finding much info for the real thing.

  15. Skin and mount. Here's a pair I did that I don't remember the lengths, but they were well over 26".

I have a 54 lb striper with real head,
If I did it over I would cast the head, and still skim mount it
