Customer wanted something different than a bleached or dipped skull and told me to surprise him. Decided I’d try this based on his rustic taste. 8005D8CD-6581-483C-BA0C-41CBDCDA07B8.jpeg 29E252E8-7084-450A-B3FE-657C209ACFEE.jpeg

Pretty simple really. I macerated and then degreased the skull. then...
    1. primed with black primer
    2. two coats of oxidizing bronze paint
    3. spray with green patina activator while second coat of bronze was still wet
    4. apply clear acrylic to areas I wanted rust and while wet apply iron powder
    5. spray iron powder with a mixture of vinegar, water and hydrogen peroxide to accelerate rust.

I had to do it twice because I messed up and tried to seal it the first time which made most of the patina disappear, so I wouldn't try sealing it when done.

Not a fan of dipped skulls but that is a combo that is interesting and would bear up under some experimenting. Nicely done. How did they like it?

He loved it. He showed it to all his friends and now I have several more to do because they want it done to some they already have.

LOL. Word of mouth can be your best advertising. Another reason to not let crap go out the door, even if the client says it's ok and what they want. Your name is still attached to it.
