How do you know what kind of shape they are in? Aren’t the frozen and wrapped?

You missed my point completely! My point was replacing a cape in this scenario is no big deal because it wasn't something they killed in the first place.

If for one they tell me it’s a rd kill or 2 I tell them when I thaw this out if there are any issues I will let you know . If it’s in bad shape you can come back and get or I’ll throw away and send your deposit back to ya . But I’m not wasting my time to put lipstick on a pig . You take away from your profit by trying to fix something unfixable . I won’t do it .

Most of the time roadkill is in better shape than shot!

I wouldn't say common, as it is illegal with migratory birds and in some locals with upland as well. Does it happen? I'm sure it does but, it isn't the norm.

I knew an old fish taxidermist who had dozens of unfinished bass of all sizes mounted and hanging in his loft. He had the fastest turn-around time in the area...hint, hint!!! As for the birds, a "bird transplant" sometimes occurs when a flying pose is shot to crap, and a standing pose has perfect wings. You play this game long enough, you get smart, go broke, or stay continuously frustrated!

Ok so I had several days to decide if I wanted to take him up on his offer which was he would give me $300 instead of the $500 owed and he would be happy.
Instead of giving him back his $300 deposit and waste more time trying to find a buyer of the replacement bobcat which who knows how long it would take to find somoene wanting to spend $800 on a cat they didn't kill I decided it wasn't worth wasting anymore time on it just for $200. Especially since it was my fault in the first place. So I finished the cat and called him and asked if he wanted to come pick it up. He was happy with the mount and the discount so its behind me now hopefully. I did not feel obligated to give him the $300 deposit back plus mount him another cat for free. If some of you think I should have done that more power to ya. I offered to return hi s deposit plus apologized several times. Or if he liked the replacement cat I would mount it for him and he could pay the $500 balance and pick it up. Those were my offers and he counter offered with paying $300 and he would be happy so thats what I did.
    Thanks for all the opinions.

Lots of good advice here. Eat the $200 and refuse work from him in the future

I agree, honesty is the best policy....and of course you don't have to tell them about every nick but when a whole hide needs replaced that a big deal.

  15. Personally I think you did the best you could. I would put him on the do not work list, but at least he will not be spreading bad stuff about you either. Thanks for sharing as I try to learn from other peoples experiences.

I think you made the wise decision. The loss wasnt from some chemical failure or loss in shipping. It was because you left it out. It was your fault and you are an honest person and now you did the right thing. You will sleep well at night.

I agree 100% with Joey... you don’t need to know everything that went into the sausage, just enjoy the gumbo. Give people what they want and what they payed for, tell people what they want to hear and do what you want, and all’s well that ends well.

But what if the cook was Jeffery Dahmer??? lol. 13 Point parallels my thoughts exactly. The time to bail was when he started cussing at you. But, you did the best you could do in the end...
