Are there different color phases that you know of in pintails? I have seem them sooty gray with yellow stripes in tertials, and a silvery grey with white stripes in tertials. Is this a regional thing? all were mature drakes so age prob not a factor.

I do know birds that we got down in Mexico seemed to have less rust color too them and even lighter from what we guessed was being sun bleached out. As far as color phases I don't believe so most of the color differences were from minerals in the water affecting the white on the birds.

well it was the actual color, not staining as stain removers had no effect…wonder if its an age or flyway thing
