Drying Plaster

Discussion in 'Molding and Casting' started by 1tahr, Sep 5, 2021.

  1. i recently molded a trout head in plaster , i decided to speed up the drying of the mold by putting it in the oven , the plaster ended up chalky and and the detail wasnt good just wondering what a safe way of speeding up drying process would be thanks

    Use hot water

  3. my understanding was hot water would speed up setting time , but plaster would be weaker and not catch detail as well is this not the case?

Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt per cup of dry plaster to speed up drying time.

Clean all that mucus off the trout head first, then seal it with lacquer, then use the plaster as you’ll get a much better cast this way.
