Condolences to his family. He was a great guy, and was extremely talented. I've spent a lot of time at conventions watching him do magic with his "rub on" colors. He will truly be missed.

Steve Rotramel We got some radical rebels in this county!

    What terrible news.

I was 27 (35 years ago) when I answered an ad in the Hendersonville newspaper for a taxidermy helper. I called the number and asked if the job was still open. Jim just laughed and said “son I just put the ad in yesterday! Come on down to the shop.”

When I got there he put a deer head form up on the mounting stand and set the right eye with critter clay. He then handed me a glass eye and a ball of clay and said “now make the other one look like this one. And don’t take no hour.”

I’m not exaggerating at all to say that I knew nothing and could do nothing when we met. I had been in government service all my life so far. I owe him so much. The foundation for everything I’ve done since was learned from Jim in that shop.

He was a huge talent, a creative innovator, and a positive, powerful force in the taxidermy industry.

    We will greatly miss him.

Oh no! Jim was a great down to Earth guy. I met him several times at his annual open house and when I drove down to pick up my supplies to save on shipping. Fantastic guy that I would consider a friend even though I barely knew him. Very kind and always willing to share anything that would help another. We will miss him. RIP Jim. My deepest and sincerest condolences to his family.

Jim was a great guy ... always eager to meet and greet you when you approached him at his booth, no matter where it was. Always had a smile as big as the outdoors. He will be missed. Many dont know but Jim was a member of Angel wings for several years. This group would fly transplant organs to where they needed to at no charge.

I still have some letters from Desert Storm, where Jim and I corresponded.

Jim will be missed by all that knew him
    Condolences to the family.
