I have a whitetail rack that is bleached out and cracked up in places. I know how to stain antlers but my question is whats the best way to fix the hairline cracks to get it ready to stain ?

I’ve heard of using a small amount wood putty as a filler. Allow it to set, apply a base color and then seal before staining. A small amount of apoxy clay would work as well I think.

Apoxie “Fix it” is made for such repairs. Thin it with safety solvent and work it into the cracks and crevices.

Premixed Drywall patch smeared on and wiped off fills in the cracks really well, probably workers best when recoloring with acrylic paints
