Critiques Please!

Just a few things I see at first glance: your ear edge isn’t rolled in enough , more on the top edge of deers left ear. The lips or mouth line is over tucked , back corners of mouth kinda roll a round and go forward and down ( look at a study pic you will see what I’m saying if not tell me and I’ll post a pic of it ) . Eyes look pretty good shape wise , just trying to figure out why they look so gunky with like something is all around it . Tear duct should be tucked more , should be a slit , hair to hair no skin should be showing , when dry there really isn’t any finish work to be done there , no filler maybe a little paint toning is all . Remember Groom as it drys, there is a hair pattern/direction all over the deer , like the heavy hair on forehead above eyes it should be brushed so it goes over and perpendicular to the eye and make a line appear all the way back to the rack , again look at a pic to understand, as the mount drys using a small to medium size wire brush , brush the side of the head from the ears down and slightly forward, all the way to the muzzle . Now brush the chin and side of the nose hair forward and up so it stands up giving you a fuller look . Do that 3 -4 times a day till it drys .

 

Ear butts shape and lack of muscle definition stand out the most to me but all in all a good looking mount

 

are you using wax around the eyes?

 

Join you state's taxidermy association, and find someone that give one on one training. It's well worth the money

 

No, you shouldn't use wax but believe it or not some still do. Just kind of looked like it was. keep at it and good luck.

 

Ear edges, earbutt muscle definition, hair patterns on muzzle and brisket, back corners of mouth, tear ducts, finish work, it takes a lifetime of learning. Do what these guys said....join, practice and learn.

 

Be better to ask for critique when it is finished.

 

Looks OK, but the cut on the nose, lip line and the eye issue you pointed out need some attention next time. The nose cut could be repaired without too much trouble. The ear position on the first one looks better than the second one.

 

I'm Probally no one to critique but the hair patterns around nose are off a good bit, I issue with that at times.

 

Wow I am not even a taxidermist snd I usually see issues with mounted fur bearers. I learned so much reading this. I can’t wait to look closely at my next deer! Great help to the young taxidermist!

 

When zooming in on finished eye you have drops of clear down on the hair , you can tell you put them there , they don’t belong . There is an eye gland but it up on the eye line itself near the eye itself. The nose hair on the close up of the nose pad is to low on left side looking at pic . Do what I call the finger test , put your finger in the nose at a 90 degree angle, you should only see pad not hair , it means you don’t have it tucked in enough. Symmetry is a major with most beginners, all in all your doing good you just need to fine tune and worry bout the details a little More. If you don’t know what I mean bout the finger test let me know and I take a pic showing you , good job
