Slipping On Ear What Do I Do?

    This deer came in and had been taken out of town. The gentleman salted the cape. I took it to a local tannery and now his ear looks like this. All my other capes from him are fine!
    What can I do to fix this if anything? It worse on the front side I just cannot get a picture to load for some reason. Any help would be appreciated!

    If it came in turned and salted it’s not your fault, that said you can find a donor ear and cut out and replace after it’s mounted and dry , or if it was me I would turn ear down and back , hiding it the best I could , then paint it when I did my finish work.

    I thought about calling him and seeing if it was ok for his ear to be back. He was wanting them both forward. Thanks for the help

    This may sound stupid. Would it look bad if you cut a notch out of it like a split

    No not necessarily, but I’m sure he would also notice that . Call and tell him it came back from tannery like that and give him the options .

    Mount your deer as is. When it’s dried, place a thin layer of super glue gel over the bare area. Clip some “donor hair” off the back of the mount. Short hair is located near the brisket. Lay it on your bed of super glu e and trim to match the edge of the ear. Nobody will ever notice the repair but you.

    I have fixed a lot of damage like that before. Mostly the ear was damaged by the deer, but I had at least a couple that were from slippage there. If its a small spot on the back of the ear, I'd usually just airbrush it to match the color. If it was a larger spot, like yours, I would do a hair transplant using scrap deer hair gluing it in place using forceps and super glue. I'd just charge them extra based on how much extra time it took.
