Wondering Once Something Is Wet Tanned, If It Is Able To Be Soft Tanned/softened?

Or once it’s wet tanned, that’s it?

  2. A wet tan is basically just a tanned hide that hasn't been dried and broken/softened; all 'soft tans' technically start out as 'wet tans', there's just an additional step to turn one to the other. So yes you can take a wet to to a soft tan, you just need to break(stretch) the leather as it dries. However hides intended to stay as wet tans are often not oiled as heavily as those intended to become soft tans, so it might not come out as soft as you'd like it to be unless you have a softening oil on hand that you can use.

You can return it to a tannery and request a full tan. I don’t know how they would price it out

I've sent wet tans back(bears) back to the tannery and they turned them into dry tans. I could see no difference in the finished product
