Painting a reproduction bluegill and airbrushed the bars. Not looking good. So may white out and try another way. This is my second attempt as I used vine charcoal the first time. What are some other ways that give good results? Thanks for any help.

If you still want to try with the airbrush, spray one scale at a time lightly till you get the proper bar you are looking for. With the small dots it is probably not necessary to hit each scale exactly to get a good look.

Look into using a wash, glazing, and/or stippling. These can produce fine results without much fuss.

A combination of methods is often the best.
