Anybody got any idea what kind of deer this is, it was hit by a truck and he wants to mount it, I am pretty sure it is a pen deer that got out, just don't know if it could be a sika or fallow or some cross breed. Game warden was not sure but issued him a salvage tag. 20220716_152908.jpg

I have seen young fallow deer with antlers that looked like that. I have seen chocolate fallow deer that were similar to that color.

Just wants to euro it and full tan the hide, still not sure what it is. I'm going with sika.

I do a lot of sika , that’s not a sika , ears are way to big for sika , that’s a fallow deer .

Sika also have more rounded ear tips, fallow more pointed.

That was my thought, I live in the UK while its antlers look a lot like a sika a "chocolate" 1/2yo sika certainly isn't common. 1/2yo chocolate fallow? very!

The dark colouration with Sika comes with age the Nara park deer are quite a good example of that.
