Well the day has arrived for the 1st backpack request. For the taxidermists that do these, how much more do you charge on average. Was thinking around $300 but not sure. Thanks in advance!

I have yet to do one but I would charge for a shoulder mount and hide tanning at least.

More than a shoulder mount for sure. They are a pain in the ass. I don't know why people who have never had to pack out a deer suddenly want a pack mount?

I agree, it is a fad. I had to drag my deer a mile and a half on a game cart, maybe I should mount it like that and see if it becomes a fad.

Using the formula you used to come up with prices on other mounts is the same formula to use on this.

If I were to do one, it would be 1,000 plus the price of the pack board and other accessories.

It’s a specialty mount , I’d charge for a shoulder mount $850 then $350 for pack and extras

Once you do a few of these, they come together quickly. I could charge more, do less of them, and generate less revenue. I charge what I charge, it works for me.

Basic is same price as a shoulder mount. I highly detailed one is about $1200. Vintage Items to trick it out cost more supply money.

I charge $200 more than I do for a shoulder mount.

My customers supply any "bling" associated with the backpack.

ok guys. Don't beat me up too badly. why would you charge more to roll up the hide { after it dry's} and tie it up on a couple of pieces of wood? I know you still half to do the head but why so much more? just curious.

Honestly, the head I use on most of them is from an old mannikins I have inventoried. I have scads of them from old deer mounts. In 50+ years, one builds quiet a collection of old taxidermy. My major cost is in having the skin soft tanned.

I would think a soft tan would be desirable. Soft tan flat hides have more "fluff" to the hair.

Mine were wet tanned and I only used a long cape, like for a pedestal mount. I used the " Pillow " supplied by Revolution Taxidermy Supply, put it inside the cape and rolled the cape around it and stapled it. Worked fine.
