Eye Horns

    I haven't mounted anything in a few years, my nephew wants me to mount his first deer. Started gathering my taxidermy tools and can't find my eye horns. I've never mounted a deer without them. I'm not sure if I should buy a new set or if there's a technique people are using to get the cape on the form without damaging the clay around the eyes. I'm thinking that a larger neck incision might help??

    If you use critter clay for your eyes , shape them and let them dry while you prep your cape . Pull your cape over and then spritz your clay work with a shot of water . I sew my cape up then set my face , tucking nose lips and such . By that time my clay is soft again . If not I just give it a bit more time . But it will soften up like you just did it .

    That is what I do.

    Doing the clay through the eye skin hole when the cape is on is another way.

    Do your eye set in Apoxie Sculpt and let it set up a bit is another.

    Let the Apoxie Sculpt harden and use the lay method is another.

    Use a Rinehart form with preset eyes is another way.

    Use 13 point's way is yet another.

    I think that might be all there is.
