I recently had someone ask if I might be able to repaint a bass he had an older gentleman mount about 4 or 5 years back. He said it wasn't really a bad mount, just painted a bit dark. The fish he caught was a fairly drab brown colour, sadly, not a pretty green, gold, with bold tiger stripe version. The mount was... well, it didn't smell bad. I let him know that I could repaint it, but couldn't really change much else on the mount. All the surface filler I have wasn't going to change the body shape! I cleaned the surface with lacquer thinner, rubbed with steel wool and broke out the white primer spray can. This was about 2½ hours later: A couple more hours, mostly spent fighting with the weird texture on the fin surfaces. Some detail work. It's no competition paintjob, and there are a few things I would fix up next time, but this one is now glossed and ready for mounting back on the driftwood base. I'll take a few photos of it completed, as well as share the before and after. Thanks for looking!
