These guys are almost ready for finish work. This piece is mine for the house. Birds gifted by some (Northern) taxidermist friends. Rock from RMM.

Ya wanna talk about Pinfeathers? Now we can talk Pinfeathers OMG totally full. Customer wanted it landing. Talked him into a dead mount. The tail, secondary's where half grown in. Once in Lifetime goose? But cool none the less.

Nice save! Damage dictates pose! They'll never say their bird sucked... they'll say it was the crappy taxidermist!

Truer words have never been spoken. It's not a hard conversation to have with your customers but to give them the best mount it's necessary sometimes.

Wally that wing off mounting technique is a little intimidating at first but never had a turkey go together faster as this one. Thanks for the advise. My turkeys are still a long way from yours but was happy with it.

You got that right. I started doing it that way loved it. I always removed the tail. Then the wings separate. Then I started mounting the legs separate with the leg skin done like a sock attached to the leg. I just make an incision around the knee and peel the skin like a sock. Frank Newmyer and Shane Smith do it this way. Recently, I have been removing the breast plate separately from the back and thigh skin. I find it even easier to mount, however, Caulk for hide paste and pins become more important. I don't do any taxidermy business any more, so I have time to experiment and I'm not a picky customer.

Tanglewood you are correct legs, head, tail and now the wings all in pieces. I had customers come in and give it some pretty weird looks like " you gonna be able to make that look right?". But when it's done can't even tell and caulk is a must I used silicone which sets up faster . . . that was fun also.

The only thing more fun than a Merganser on the wheel is a bloody neck Merganser on the wheel.
