    Good luck with that.
The Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) prohibits the take (including killing, capturing, selling, trading, and transport) of protected migratory bird species without prior authorization by the Department of Interior U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Perhaps I should have said any kind of duck head with a finished look. Maybe not painted.

George The older I get, the better I was.

The answer is no! Ducks have copious amounts of fat

Not in their neck and head. You clean the skull.

I would conventionally mount the head and neck.

I'm not a freeze dry expert, but I don't believe the skull is cleaned prior to freeze drying. I had several baitfish crappie freeze dried years ago. Recently, I picked one up to use it and it crumbled in my hands....dermestids had destroyed it from the inside out. I'm certain they would love duck fat!

I agree. But I'll bet a turkey neck has more fat then a duck neck.

The neck is completely removed when a turkey head is freeze dried. All that remains is the skull.

I would mount them like any other duck. You can use the skull or a reproduction head. The skin needs defatted, degreased and washed. Is defatted even a word?

Most freeze dry turkey heads on inserts that eliminates the skull altogether. The beak and skin is all that is used. Some will use the real skull. The reason for freeze drying turkey heads is to preserve the bumps, caruncles and skin texture.

The skin of a turkey neck that is the part you freeze dry, has no fat on it.

Those waddles on the bottom of the neck are full of something.

Spongy tissue. They engorge with blood to plump them up. The freeze dryer fills them with a chemical and a glue like binder. They have no fat in them.

Who's that guy that use to do freeze dried heads in I think Alabama. He was in Joe Coombs catalog. He used his personal name as his bussiness. But I can not think of it.

I dont know bout freeze dryed duck heads with feathers but .. You can skin them out out just mount the heads if it floats your boat ... I used to take birds that i ripped , messed up on the wheel when i was learning and do chest/head mounts .. Made call hangers for clients out of their ruined bird and mounted them a pin raised bird to replace the one i messed up .. Did these a long , long time ago cus I dont ruin birds on the wheel anymore or at least its very rare if i do ... callhangers.png
