Customer Asking For A 1099 ?

Joey, the customer wants this person to send them a 1099.

 

everyone in business has a tax ID number right ? do you pay taxes on your supplies ?

years ago i would go with my buddy to get supplies for his home contracting business and he would give the supplier his tax ID number and wouldnt be charged tax on what he bought.

is this still true or did the rules change ?

 

The rules are still the same for the most part. I have mine on file with multiple suppliers as to not pay sales tax on anything I purchase.

If they are writing it off as an expense they'll need a W-9 there is no reason for a 1099

 

Corporations can get into big trouble for hiring services from non-documented workers. The 1099 is a safeguard to them that you have a valid SSN or EIN.

 

I asked my boss this morning about this. We have people use business checks and cards all the time. He's never had a request for a w-9. The only organization he had any thing differently done is when the state has work done for the state park or the Hormel non-profit wildlife area.

 

Thank God President Biden has the foresight to hire 100k or so tax-helpers to make it easier on you. They will correct any 1099 problems during the audits.

 

You sure they aren't asking for w9 request for taxpayer ID? A 1099 is given to the recipient not the payer.

 

That is exactly the process. I fill out several annually.
