Muledeer Ear Anatomy

  1. I am looking for some really good references for muscle structure on mule deer. Anyone have suggestions of books that you have seen out there?

    No. Try Breakthrough taxidermy there are ear butt studies in some of the earlier issues

    If your looking for length and attachment points of the muscles just skin out a mule deer head and leave the ear attached it will all be right there.

    And keep it in the freezer. I had that section of the skull frozen for years with one ear in the back position and the other in the forward position.

    Get a pair of binoculars and a note pad and go look at deer. Draw what you see and study your ass off. Pictures will NEVER get you to truly understand the anatomy of anything. Motion and movement are the key to understanding the mechanics. Most will never grasp this concept, which is why you have guys that have done taxidermy for years yet their deers earbutts are still wrong.
