Should a goose form fit snug or loose. I'm having trouble finding a form to fit a 15 1/2 by 19 body. One number is either an inch too big or they're both way off. Know supply is an issue. I tossed the body already thinking i could get a body or id try carving. I'm just in it for the hobby and this is my second goose. Thanks for the help.

Buy the form an inch too long. Test fit it, and if necessary, remove an inch of length. You can foam it back together, or use hot glue and a few long screws if you don’t have foam.

I like all my bird skins to fit loose on the body. Give you more liberty to adjust the skin and feathers.

Buy both your skin is going to let out after fleshing uses the one that fits best. yes skin fitting a little loose is best.

Wild things nailed it. You put a form in that fits you are going to fight everything being positioned properly. Guess how I know?

I guess I'm simple in the head. I can't find anything close. I know since it's my second goose that it isn't going to be pretty. Would you guys mind giving some sizes that you'd be comfortable going with?

Hi 3bears. I measured from the front of breast to the end of the body after skin was removed. I cut the tail off just in front of quills. That was for length. Circumference was taken just behind shoulder joint.

Ok sounds like you measured pretty much correct. Don't be afraid to use just about any of Shane Smith's forms that are smaller but close to your measurements, you can add filler or caulk or both actually his system is designed to use caulk while mounting. Go on MK site and watch his videos. I use to struggle with birds until I learned his methods mainly because of the forms available were too damn big for the birds I was mounting.

  13. One way to get correct form size is to just wrap them. Then there is no guessing. You’re wrapping what your looking at no matter what. Being old school that’s what I do. Take the wood excelsior and go on. JMO. Good luck

You will never find an easier form to alter than a bird form. Get it close and shorten it length and width as needed. or increase it as needed. Sometimes we get in our heads on this stuff'n stuff.
