Hi there! I purchased 4 chipmunks and a baby raccoon and shipping took longer than expected. The shipper said they should arrive Friday. They didn’t come until today. They arrived room temp and totally thawed. Thoughts? Honestly I’m nervous to open the bag.

Were they salted, or just frozen?

    Just frozen.

  4. might have to apply some stop rot to stop slippage

So I put them back in the freezer. I have stop rot but I’m a little unclear where and how to apply it. And when? Defrost first? As you can probably tell I’m a baby beginner at this. :)

They can’t be both if salted properly they won’t freeze solid . It’s one or the other don’t ever do both , and if salted they best be skinned and fleshed properly. Just saying

let your nose do the telling , if no good you will smell it .

Like 13 point said, if they smell bad, they are.

As to the stop rot, you should have applied it liberally on the hair side of the critters before freezing. I think the instructions on the bottle say to use a brush. Don't defrost them if they are already frozen just to put stop rot on them. But when you go to thaw them out apply it then. As you skin them out apply the stop rot to the flesh side also.

Just be fore warned, baby animals and small critters tend to slip easily anyway, especially for a beginner with your slower speed.

I bought chipmunks off here from someone and they sent them priority mail and after 4 days they were slipping bad . Like said baby critters slip easily, fawns also.
