So, I finished putting up a deer and see that there are little to no eyelashes on the thing. I don't recall even looking at them while skinning to know if they were there. One side has a few and the other are just small fine hairs. I know George had issues with one of his back in the day and glued fake ones on. Would you leave as is or try and put more/longer ones on?

For commercial, nothing, for comp it better have them. I don't typically worry about it for commercial, some deer just don't have much for eyelashes.

I always kept some eyelids tanned and dried to replace damaged ones. Just rehydrate and super glue in place.

Just a thought.. fake lashes and alter them to your deer references if it's a noticeable difference?

LOL, Taylor, that is what George did in the past. Another thought is all the road kill showing up around me now. Just curious on how long "glued on" eyelashes will last.

I have a baggie I will put whiskers and eyelashes and such in if I find them on the fleshing table or wherever. But I rarely put them back in a commercial mount. Whiskers and such from fox and squirrels I do put back in tho . Or the 3 long mid bottom jaw feeler whiskers from deer I will put back . Had a judge in a seminar say if he doesn’t see them it’s automatically Red . So that has just stuck with me even on commercial mounts

Any judge that would downgrade based on hairs that may have been there in the first place is clueless. I've seen lots of deer with missing wiskers.

You apparently missed his and the point . All deer have them thru there life . If it’s a show pcs especially, making sure you put them back , even if there replacements just shows attention to detail, maybe you had to be there to understand, but I got it . Trust me , I’m not going to post his name with out his permission, but he has a clue , to include many top 3s in the masters at the worlds .

I just went through 20 reference photos of face closeups. Only half of them had those whiskers. Again, that should not be a deduction. I can see why people have to come prepared with photos to defend against bad judgments. That subjective nature of competitions is why I stayed away from them. I'm retired now, made a lot of money in the trade, and that was my main focus. I'm a national and world champion in a sport that is not subjective.

nothing in nature is perfect. if a client shoots a deer thats blind on one side and wants it mounted that way. you probably shouldnt enter it in competition. the judge will deduct points :D:D

i mounted a grouse in a hanging dead position, the feet shrunk a little during the mounting process, stefan savides judged that bird and spoke with me afterwards when i asked him to critique the mount with me.

he suggested that some judges would have deducted for that but he didnt because the bird was "dead"

Again it apparently went over your head , it’s all in the details , if they should have been there then put them there , if you don’t do this anymore, or you never competed why are you letting it bother you .

Apparently what I posted when right over your head. If half the living deer out there don't even have those whiskers, and you can prove the one you mounted didn't have them, then putting something into the mount that does not belong there is stupid just because some judges like them. Do judges also deduct for a small, unimpressive throat patch, or a hairy inner ears or any other such dumb things that vary from one deer to another? I hope not.

I'm sure with your inability to understand basic concepts, that you will never be able to retire.

Lol I am retired and love doing taxidermy at the competition level. Something you apparently can’t understand, and I just won the breakthrough award last week 709F3F80-3A3B-4909-8D4A-F88CE125C66F.jpeg at the eastern regionals so I think I know what I’m talking bout

So you are not retired then like you said and still working doing taxidermy. I guess you are not clear on the concept of what retirement is. And your dig on me is silly when you can see the medal I won in my profile pic.
