Can Taxidermy Be Weighted?

Hi, I'm having my rabbit taxidermied and I was just wondering if it was possible for it to be weighted and just in general, is it possible to put something weighted into taxidermy? (if so, with what material). I've tried searching it but nothing came up other than a weighted mouse but it didn't say how it was weighted. Thanks!

I’m not sure what you mean by “weighted.” If you mean can something be added to make the mount heavier, the answer is yes. There are a number of materials that can be used but you need to talk with whoever you are using to mount the rabbit and have them add the material during the mounting process. Anything added after it is mounted would require cutting it open and possibly removing some of the material the taxidermist used for the form. A little better explanation of your question would be helpful.

Depends on how long you want to wait?

Put lead in it like fishing weights. Are you going to use it as a door stopper?

Why do you want to weight it?

Sure cut in half, carve out the center, fill with whatever weights you like, glue back and mount.

If it were me. I'd cut it in half fill each half with weights and then make book ends. ;) Especially with Easter coming.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you're having your rabbit done as a soft mount rather than a traditional mount. A pouch full of plastic microbeads in the stomach can be added to give the critter some weight.

Livy apparently came and went. Created an account, made a post and was never on here again. I'd guess that more important things have come about than a heavy rabbit.
