I was called from a Washington state phone number and a person that I have never known or heard of the other day. The guy wanted to have a lifesize mount cougar remounted. He wasn't happy with the mount that he said was still at a shop in the Southwest. He texted me photos and it was indeed a poor looking mount. He got a deal on it and said his guide took it to this taxidermist that was unknown to him. He was willing to ship the mount to Wyoming to have it remounted and then the new mount shipped to him in California. He didn't add up. I told him it was illegal to ship a cougar mount, tanned cougar etc into California and he assured me he knew that but that he could get around the laws on that ? The California part sounded alarm bells for me.. I turned him down at any price. Thinking on it I would bet a lot it was a Sting call from the Feds. Maybe not. Oh well. Careful out there.

That was the smart move, Jim. I once had a request to mount an anhingha, believe it or not. How stupid do those feds think we all are?

I havent personally but a few guys I know have had calls requesting hawks/owls and other birds of prey that they believe with absolute certainly were bored F&W agents throwing stuff at the wall and hoping something would stick

Very observant of you. I just read the post by a DRT just above Jim's titled "Legalities". It too has the ring of lookin' for a sting. That poster is definitely not a taxidermist.
