What's On Your Workbench May 2023

A fresh speckerhead to start the month off. Cool looking birds, I don't see many of these around here. Even this was harvested in Kansas.

A buddy of mine gifted me a limit of divers his dad shot on his likely last veteran hunt cus he’s like 89 yrs old .. I was just gona use them for throw birds for my dog .. But I thought better to mount them for practice .. Since they look OK think I’m gona suprise the old man and give them to him .. something to remember the last waterfowl hunt of his life … I remember him saying one was flipping when he shot it and he’d never seen one do that .. so I did one semi flipping ,

I’m no professional, but I’m almost done! Gonna use the H.S. Strut plaque for it.

Sleeping Suzy for this afternoons bird. They make beautiful mount by themselves but she's getting company on this piece of wood

 

I wanted to try out a Cory Curuthers turkey form from Matuska. I like to scratch and use a webbing stretcher to poke holes in it as I use caulk as a hide paste. I had to remove some of the neck material to fit the Research mannikins artificial head. I am going for a very low head partial strut following a reference pic I have.
