  3. Take some clay and make it real "soupy" with some water. Smear that all over that spot to hold the hair down and let it dry for a week or so. when you finish the deer just comb out the dried clay and the hair will likely not stick up any longer of not quite as much as before.

Ya first need to ask if the mane was there when he skinned it? But if not that's great advise as how to fix it.

  5. It was there when I skinned it. The first that I have seen.

Then leave it. It is a unique feature for this deer.

However it is not a particularly unique feature for deer. I estimate we have 5% that come in with some sort of mane.

  7. I also did my 1st Muley with a mane this year. It was an archery Deer and just a tad bigger mane than yours. I googled it and found that 1 in 10000 have it. Customer was stoked.

Yep, I hate em. Most people don't even realize it until they come to pick it up. I've got one coming up that has a mane and it is part way down, yuck

Now that I'm caught up with customer mounts, I'm finally able to get my 2022 public land archery buck done! This is my 7th whitetail shoulder mount, all critiques/suggestions are welcome - I appreciate the wealth of knowledge/experience here! 20230606_135523.jpg 20230606_135537.jpg

A young Axis deer - the last deer harvested by a member of a hunt club that died weeks later of cancer. It’s going in their cabin with a plaque in honor of their hunts together.
