Lake Trout Finishing

Discussion in 'Fish Taxidermy' started by Fishworship, Jan 21, 2008.

  1. I've got a carved lake trout (18" miniature of a 36" lean, Lake Superior fish) that I'm ready to finish. In all of my reference photos, I don't see any opportunities to use shimmers or powders, but that doesn't mean the opportunities aren't there (it just may mean I don't have the ideal reference photographs or the best angles to the photographs). Any thoughts or suggestions on how to make the finish on a lake trout "pop"? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As far as shimmers. Blue, Purple, And Orange all have place on these fish. from some angle it seemed to have Orange metallic scale tipping.
    I hope that helps some.

What I use to make lakers POP is silver metalliic (lifetone)as a base and then blue pearlescet(lifetone). the silver is trans and will give depth, and the blue will give some imagination.
