? for the Bear Experts. - Pics of mount on base added 4-22-08

Discussion in 'Lifesize Mammals' started by J P Baker, Feb 29, 2008.

  1. I have a Black Bear in my shop and the customer was told by the guide that it was a once in a life time Bear and It is the only one he had seen in all of his 25 years of hunting Bear. I know BS comes to mind but, any Input and thoughts about the Bear only, would be nice.

The Bear was taken in New Mexico and is a Black Bear 5'- 8" nose to tail dry tanned before soak-up. The hair is Silver in color down its back and black on its head and legs.

Is this normal or odd for Blacks?

I will post a photo a little later.

I saw one killed last year that had a silver face and feet and I believe, some silver hairs through the body.It was an ancient old sow from Saskatchewan.I saw one skin from MT that was silver like that but only about a 200 lb. bear. Not sure how it got that way.It looked like a glacier bear.I would consider it very rare to see one that color.

I got one in a few years ago from Alaska that had about an equal mix of silver and black hair.
It was a very old sow also, with all most no teeth left.

    The bear skull measures 18 14/16" B&C

My customer said it was aged at 5/6 years.

In the photo all that you see as blue is really Silver.

That is what the Guide told Him.

It will be a Life size mount, I'll be starting it in a week or two.

That is a beauty. If it would have came from Alaska it would be called a glacier bear.
