does any one put anything on the antlers before qiving them back to the customers. I just visited a friend and i saw him wiping motor oil (very little of course) on the antlers. what do you guys use or do. i personally just leave them alone.

I use Liquid Gold or Old English. These are petroleum based liquids and will clean the antlers after they have been washed and are dry. I apply with large cotton balls or a small sponge. A little goes a long ways. Also has a nice aroma.

I spray all antlers with clear spar varnish---------it brings out the color and gives them a nice shine.

George's mixture of 1/2 linseed oil & 1/2 turpentine. Gives a very subtle glow that I like a lot. I used to use...oh heck what's it called? Not Murphy's oil soap...grrr. I don't remember the name. I like the 1/2 & 1/2 mixture better anyway.

I was using antler finishing wax, but a friend told me about the the 1/2 lineseed oil, 1/2 turpentine.. so I got that and I just started using and I REALLY like it.. It turned my real grey icky looking gemsbok horns to a rich deep healthy almost black color.. Ive tried it on muleys both light and dark and I really like how it brings out the natural color :)

I like them natural some with tree bark in them. What it all boils down to is personal preference. There is no right or wrong.
