No fish taxidermy , but I caught this toad just before the major storms hit here in Iowa. Nasty stuff!!! Great work out there. Gary, your largemouth is amazing. Great work from everyone this week. Fishtail, loving your trout!!!!! Well, heres the catch of the day. Not a huge bass by any standards, but he smoked a buzzbait good enough. K

Keep up the good work everyone.

  3. Nice bass Jimmy!!!! I bet he'll get a nice taxi job.

    Fishtail... I like the rainbow!

And that smallmouth looks pretty good too NTWS.

Jimmy... I cannot get your bass photo to load here at home; I'll have to have a look at work later this week.

I do not have any fish to share this week, but I have been busy. I know this isn't fish per se, but it's fish related. As many of you know, my day job is with U.S. Fish and Wildlife. I am the Education Specialist for Togiak NWR (SW Alaska). We have a pretty small lobby. It has a number of mounted fish (replicas, Archie Phillips... done by a place in Anchorage) and birds, as well as some glass display cases filled with skulls and feathers and such. Frankly not much thought has been given to showing any of what we have, so one of my on the side projects has been to try and make the lobby look a bit better and more organized. I actually have a number of ideas, but haven't had the time to attend to them. Well, Saturday I made time for one. I spent about 7 hours painting the walls that display our fish to look a little more colorful. The water color was mixed to match reference photos of underwater shots of some of our rivers (reference photos are ALWAYS the key!!! LOL). It's not finished yet- I still have some supplies on order that will be added. But at least something is up in the event we get some summertime visitors coming through. These walls started out completely off white (plain), such as you see on the lower third of each wall. I have never done anything like this, but I was tired of plain walls. I plan to do something similar on another wall with our seabirds.

The fun part is, while I had permission from my supervisor to convert the walls, I never uttered a word to anyone else, so it will be something of a surprise to the the rest of the staff come Tuesday. ;D

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day everyone.

Glad you like the Rainbow, thanks. I really like the way you did the lobby. That is a great idea. That would be a good idea for a studio lobby, or even a booth backdrop for shows.

    Trespasser... I like the crappie!

Jimmy, that is a nice bass! Must've been fun.

    Nice work everyone.

Nice fish everyone. Like Jimmy I been taking a break and fishing ! Its hard to mount fish while the fish are biting it seems to only last a couple weeks so get out and relax your mind and soul then get back to work. Remind yourself why most of us like doing taxidermy and its because the love of the outdoors.
