Discussion in 'Fish Taxidermy' started by Rick Carter, Jun 6, 2008.

  1. I caught one 8 lbs. 3 ozs. in a benefit tournament once . I think I got $300 for big fish in the tournament . I`m looking for a 6 or 7 pound spotted bass now . I want to catch one bad .

    My biggest LMB

Is only 6.02 and that was on a local TV show in Kansas in the late 1980's. But I did catch over fifty (50) 5 lb + LMB in one year in Kansas.

So lots of 5 pounders, but only one over 6 lbs.

I used to fish a lot of bass tournaments in Kansas in the 70's & 80's, (Red Man, Kansas Pro Bass Angler's - KPBA, Military Bass Angler's Assoc -MBAA, and a few other tournaments).

    :)

Largemouth, 7.5 lbs. Kentucky Lake, Kentucky side in 1987. Looking for a reproduction close to that size to put on wall.
Smallmouth, 6.3 lbs. Lake St. Claire, Michigan in 2000. Working on a woodcarving of that fish but it is going very slowly. I have it roughed out but still need lots of work.
Spotted Bass, 1.5 lbs. Kentucky Lake, Kentucky side in 1987. ;D

All three fish were released after measuring.

  7. 9lbs 2ounce Indiana farm pond monster. Caught her on the bed with a purple colored plastic worm. Didn't have the heart to kill her so we weighed her and back in she went. That was 16 yrs ago and I still don't have my replica.

I have caught a 10.4 and a 10.2, I will try to post the picture of the 10.4 tomorrow. I have a 6.5 smallmouth, a 48.0 Muskie, 25.3 northern and a 2.2 bluegill. All fish with the exp. of muskie and northern were caught in St. Charles, MO. 25 miles west of St. Louis. I have 7 bass over 9 to my credit along with numerous 7-8 lb fish caught. All fish have been released to swim again with exp. of the 10.4, I did mount that. I lost a fish last year that in all honesty may have been a new MO. state record. The lake is a 85 acre subdivision lake that no one really fishes that hard. All my big bass came in the month of March on a 3/4 ounce firetiger Rattletrap, and a white 1/2 ounce terminator spinnerbait with double colorado blades.

A group of us go to florida every year for the past 10 or so years, and none of us have caught a bass over 10 ponds. Lots of 8 and 9 pounders but no 10 pounders. It really is tough to catch a bass 10 pounds or better. My biggest is 9.5. Here is a pic. of a I "think" 8 +

I caught a 27inch Largemouth back in the 80's and like a dumb a22 I didn't get it mounted. I didn't weigh the fish but it had the largest mouth of any Bass I have seen and it was extremelly skinny for a Bass that size. I still regret to this day releasing that fish.

4.2lbs That is the best I can seem to do on the Minnesota lakes in my area. Maybe this year will change all that...

Here are a few from NW Oregon. I have caught much bigger fish in CA, but like fishing for them here in STS country once in a while.

Back when I used to fish on a regular basis, I always said if I caught a 5lb largemouth I would mount. Never happened. I've caught a few 4 pounders before and even had a 6 or 7 pounder up to a friends boat once, but it got knocked off the hook by the "friend" manning the net. Imagine that! So if I want to add a trophy bass to my wall, I'll just settle for a nice replica. Should I go 10 or 12 pounds? ;D :D
