I have a good customer of mine who asked me to help him hang the elk I just mounted for him on his fireplace. I was wondering what kind of anchor is most popular for hanging big game onto a brick wall. The hanger on the form is a McKenzie H1004 Level Rite Hanger.

I'm pretty sure it's just for decoration. I will make sure it is before I hang it for him.

  3. If you do hang it there you can use a soft metal masonry plug and a 1/4" lag bolt of the appropriate length. But as javelinstorm said if it is an active fireplace ....over time the possibility of damage from heat could occur.

First, if it is for decoration, that would be fine. I wouldn't recommend haingin there if it will be used. As for the anchor, I would use a tapcon in the brick and not the mortar joint.

Tapcon is definitely the way to go.
